create a well-rounded and balanced child no matter their
temperament. Sometimes, we have children whose temperament
may lead them to being labeled as "bad", "challenging",
"strong will" or "defiant".
By the fourth grade, I was diagnosis ADHD, prescribed Ritalin
and was considered placement in an alternative school. I was
the rebel of the family and at age 17 I joined the U.S.
Military. I was raised with the “fear/follow” approach. This
was a strict, disciplinary/authoritative style with a
dominant religious background. When I became a parent, I was
determined to raise my child using a different method. I
believe cycles can be broken. I believe change is possible at
any age. I believe small changes lead to bigger changes. This
class is taught with video animation and video
demonstrations.
Disclaimer: I have used these tools with my child (since age
four). They work. I cannot speak from experience how they
will work if just beginning after age 12. A child over 12
will have more resistance to change because they have become
more adapt and more comfortable at pushing boundaries.
However, if you are the parent with a child over 12 and you
have not given up hope then rally your support system (all
influencing adults on board) and try this class.
